About the project

Our website describes the activities and results of a linguistic field project on the Tatyshly subdialect of Udmurt.

The project is carried out at the Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics (Lomonosov Moscow State University, Faculty of Philology) and is within the scope of the Centre for the Studies of Indigenous Languages of Russia. We follow the traditions of field linguistics set up by Alexander Kibrik and Ariadna Kuznetsova. More information on another project of ours dealing with Hill Mari is available here.

The research is conducted in the Tatyshly district of the Republic of Bashkortostan. We have primarily worked so far in the villages of Nizhnebaltachevo, Staryj Kyzyl-Jar, Ivanovka, and Novye Tatyshly. In addition, the villages of Starokalmijarovo, Verkhnebaltachevo, and Urazgildy have been visited.
