On April 6, Institute of Linguistics RAS held the first Moscow LFG Meeting (M-LFG). Our project member Anna Osipova presented her talk there. In the talk, the syntactic analysis of the Tatyshly Udmurt possessive double marking construction was provided.

A new issue of the Tomsk Journal of Linguistics and Anthropology has been published. The "Linguistics" section starts with a new article by the member of our project Daria Belova. It analyzes the semantic and morphosyntactic properties of two causative suffixes used in Tatyshly Udmurt: -t, of Uralic origins, and a Turkic borrowing
-ttə̑r, absent in Standard Udmurt.

The collection of scientific papers "Permistics 19: Dialects and History of Permian Languages in Interaction with Other Languages" has been released. It includes two articles by participants of our project. Anna Danilova's work is dedicated to the domain of 'fast' and 'slow' in Tatyshly Udmurt. The article of Egor Kashkin analyzes the semantics of the Tatyshly Udmurt verbs denoting motion of substances.

Recently, our project members Egor Kashkin and Julia Sinitsina participated in the Conference in honor of the 55th anniversary of Sergei Tatevosov (16 December 2023, online). The talk by Egor Kashkin was dedicated to the scalar analysis of complex predicates in Tatyshly Udmurt and beyond. Julia Sinitsyna in her talk discussed possible approaches to the semantics of comparative-attenuative suffix ‑ges in Tatyshly Udmurt.

The member of our team, Daria Mordashova, presented her talk at the All-Russian conference "Languages of the indigenous peoples of Russia in the interdisciplinary discourse" on 14 December in Yakutsk (IHRNIPP SB RAS). The talk dealt with the ways of modification of the force of imperative utterances in Tatyshly Udmurt.

In late November, the XX Conference on typology and grammar for young scholars was held (St. Petersburg, ILS RAS, 23–25 November 2023). Traditionally a lot of expedition members participate in it. This year was no exception: nine members of our project presented their talks at the conference. All of them were devoted to the aspects of the Tatyshly Udmurt grammar. The topics were the following:

• Semantics and syntax of the particles ik and es' (Anna Danilova);
• Secondary predication constructions (Elina Kozhevnikova);
• Discourse factors affecting DOM (Anastasia Kriukova);
• Free choice items (Irina Khomchenkova jointly with P. O. Rossiajkin);
• Positions of non-finite relativisation (Anastasia Rudneva);
• Polysemy patterns of the equative marker kad' (Julia Sinitsyna, Darya Mordashova and Maria-Emilia Winkler);
• Discourse use of the posessive 3sg marker (Taisiya Tyshchishina).

The article of our team member Julia Sinitsyna has recently appeared in the new issue of the Lomonosov Philology Journal. In the paper, the analysis of Tatyshly Udmurt comparative constructions with the marker kad'jos is provided. The article is available via this link.

The IV Meeting of the Society of Russian philology was held by Lomonosov MSU in cooperation with other organizations from 9 till 11 November 2023. Its programme included a wide range of sections. Daria Belova, Tatiana Davidyuk, Vladislava Ovsyannikova, Taisiia Tyshchishina and Irina Khomchenkova presented a joint talk at a roundtable for young scholars discussing our project on Tatyshly Udmurt. Egor Kashkin participated in another section and shared the experience of constructing and using fieldwork corpora basing on the projects on Hill Mari and Tatyshly Udmurt.

An article by Egor Kashkin was published in the new issue of the journal "Voprosy Jazykoznanija" (“Issues of Linguistics”), 2023. No. 5, PP. 85-100. The article discusses the semantic development of verbs with the meaning 'to see'. The pre-layout version is available.

A new issue of the Tomsk Journal of Linguistics and Anthropology has been published. It contains the article of the head of our project, Egor Kashkin. The article is devoted to the analysis of semantics of the verbs from the domain of falling in Tatyshly Udmurt.

The conference “Linguistic Forum 2023. Language functioning in remote areas: The Arctic and beyond” was held at the Institute of Linguistics RAS on 26–28 October 2023. Our team member Anna Byzova presented her talk there. It dealt with juxtapositional posessive constructions in Tatyshly Udmurt compared to the literary language.

Last week, the conference "Languages of Siberian peoples and nearby regions" was held in Novosibirsk (9-12 October, 2023).Two members of our project presented their talks there. In the talk by Anastasia Rudneva, the analysis of non-finite relativisation in Tatyshly Udmurt was presented. The talk by Anastasia Podgornaia dealt with transitive verbs that denote motion of liquids in Tatyshly Udmurt.

Eight members of our team presented their talks at the conference "Dulzon readings" held on 21–24 September 2023.in Tomsk.
In the talks devoted to the morphosyntax of Tatyshly Udmurt, the following phenomena were examined:

• original and borrowed causative markers (Daria Belova);
• properties of the subject of (e)m-participle (Tatiana Davidyuk);
• simulative constructions (Elina Kozhevnikova, Julia Sinitsyna, Daria Mordashova);
• differential object marking (Anastasia Kriukova);
• morphosyntactic transformations of secondary pain verbs (Julia Kuznetsova).

Finally, the talk by Egor Kashkin, made within the framework of the lexical typology, dealt with the concept 'straight' and its semantic connections in Tatyshly Udmurt.

Last week, our team members Maria Emilia Winkler and Ananstasia Kryukova presented their talks at the conference «Indigenous languages of Russia in contact with Russian» (Moscow, Vinogradov Russian Language Institute RAS, 15–16 Sepember 2023). The talk by Ananstasia Kryukova was dedicated to the number marking of paired objects in Tatyshly Udmurt. In the talk by Maria Emilia Winkler, the data about borrowing and reanalysis in the semantic domain CLEAN in Uralic languages were discussed.

The proceedings volume of the II Conference in memoriam of V. M. Vasilyev: current issues in comparative studies (Yoshkar-Ola, 9–10 December) has recently appeared. It contains the article by Egor Kashkin. It deals with complex predicates which include the converb of a lexical verb and a grammaticalized verb. The data of Tatyshly Udmurt are discussed in comparison with other languages of the Volga-Kama area.

A new field trip to the Tatyshly district was organized from 25 July till 11 August 2023. We visited the villages of Staryj Kyzyl-Jar, Ivanovka, Nizhnebaltachevo, Verkhnebaltachevo, Novye Tatyshly, Starokalmijarovo, Bigineevo, and Aribash. Many issues of grammar and lexicon were studied. New texts were recorded and transcribed.

A new issue of the journal "Ural-Altaic Studies" has been published. It opens with the article of our team member Daria Belova. In the article, the analysis of the event structure of the Tatyshly Udmurt morphological causative is presented.

Recently, the Festschrift in honor of the 60th anniversary of Andrej Kibrik has been published. It includes the article of our team member Tatiana Davidyuk. The
paper is devoted to the characteristics of the subject of m-participle clauses in Tatyshly Udmurt.

Last week, our team members Irina Khomchenkova and Julia Sinitsyna presented their talk at the conference RALFE 2023 Rencontres Autour de la Linguistique Formelle (25-26 May, Nice). The talk was dedicated to the syntax of comparative and exceptive constructions in some Finno-Ugric languages.

Nine members of our team presented their talks at the conference "Minor languages in general linguistics" held on 28-29 May 2023.in the Institute of Linguistics of the RAS (Moscow).
In the talks devoted to the morphosyntax of Tatyshly Udmurt, the following phenomena were examined:

• distribution of reflexive pronouns (Daria Belova, Vlad Orlov, Anna Serbina);
• number agreement with Numeral + Noun constructions (Maria-Emilia Winkler);
• noun plural form recategorization (Anastasia Kriukova);
• -ono participle in the light of variable modal force typology (Daria Mordashova);

The talks made within the framework of the lexical typology dealt with the following:

• verbs of falling in the light of the lexical typology of frontness (Egor Kashkin);
• colour terms (Elina Kozhevnikova);
• pain verbs (Julia Kuznetsova).

Our team member Daria Mordashova presented her online talk at the Workshop on modality of underdescribed languages, which was held in Berlin on 21–23 April 2023. Daria's talk was devoted to the typology of variable force modals, explaining the distribution of Tatyshly Udmurt constructions with a suffix -(o)no.

The proceedings volume of the conference "Minor languages in general linguistics" (Moscow, MSU, 22-23 April 2022) has recently appeared. It contains five articles of our project members. The paper by Maria Emilia Winkler deals with so-called "collective numerals", comparing their semantic and morphosyntactic properties in Hill Mari and Udmurt. Anna Danilova's article is devoted to syntactic properties of Tatyshly Udmurt converbs with the suffixes -sa, -kə̑ and -č'č'ož. The paper by Egor Kashkin and Julia Sinitsyna highlights the use of the posture predicate kə̑l'l'ə̑nə̑ ‘lie’ and its semantic extensions. The work by Anastasia Kriukova examines verbs of oscillation in Tatyshly Udmurt in a typological perspective. Finally, Anastasia Podgornaia's article is dedicated to lexemes of throwing: they are analyzed relying on the frame-based approach to lexical typology. All these papers are available via links.

The work on the corpus of Tatyshly Udmurt continues. New transcriptions of oral texts have been added. We also included there texts in Tatyshly Udmurt previously published by Anna Baydullina, Andrey Gilmaev, Valey Kelmakov. Its current size is ca. 19.6 thousand tokens. Further updates are planned. On 9–10 December the II Conference in memoriam of V. M. Vasilyev: current issues in comparative studies was held in the Mari Research Institute of Language, Literature and History. The head of the project, Egor Kashkin, presented there his talk on the grammaticalization of Tatyshly Udmurt complex predicates in the light of areal typology.

On the Third Conference on Uralic, Altaic and Paleo-Asiatic languages (21-23 November), Egor Kashkin, Anastasia Kriukova, Julia Kuznetsova, Irina Khomchenkova and Julia Sinitsyna gave their talks.
On the 19th Conference on Typology and Grammar for Young Scholars (24-26 November), the talks were presented by Daria Belova, Anna Byzova, Tatiana Davidyuk, Vlad Orlov, Anna Serbina, Anastasia Podgornaia and Daria Mordashova.

XIX International Symposium “Dialects and History of Permic languages in Relations with Other Languages” was held in Syktyvkar by ILLH Komi SC UB RAS on 20 — 21 October 2022. The participants of our project E. Kashkin and A. Danilova presented their talks dealing with some questions of lexical semantics. Slides are available at our website.

Conference in honour of the 90th anniversary of Ariadna Ivanovna Kuznecova was held by The Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics (Faculty of Philology, Lomonosov Moscow State University) and the Institute of Linguistics of Russian Academy of Sciences on 30 September — 1 October 2022. The 3rd School-conference on Uralic studies was held in IL RAS on 14-15 September 2022. Julia Sinitsyna and Irina Khomchenkova presented there a talk (in Russian) bringing together the syntactic properties of comparative and exceptive constructions.

A new field trip to the Tatyshly district took place from 29 July till 14 August 2022. We worked in the villages of Nizhnebaltachevo, Staryj Kyzyl-Jar, Ivanovka, Novye Tatyshly, Starokalmijarovo. Some consultants living in the village of Urazgildy were interviewed at Verkhnie Tatyshly (the district centre). The research focused on various grammatical and lexical phenomena. New texts were recorded and transcribed. Some pictures from the field trip were added into the gallery of our website.

Vladimir Ivanov has successfully defended his candidate dissertation "Ideophones in the Finno-Ugric languages of the Permic and Volgaic groups". The full text and other relevant materials are available here (In Russian).

An article by Egor Kashkin was published in the proceedings volume of the conference "Minority languages in large linguistics" (2021). It analyzes expressions of loudness in Tatyshly Udmurt and Hill Mari from areal and intragenetic perspectives. The text is available here (in Russian).
