The proceedings volume of the conference "Minor languages in general linguistics" (Moscow, MSU, 28-29 April 2023) has recently appeared. It has seven articles written by our project members. The work of a group of Daria Belova, Vladislav Orlov, Anna Serbina discusses the binding of reflexive pronouns. The paper by Maria Emilia Winkler deals with so-called "collective numerals", comparing their semantic and morphosyntactic properties in Hill Mari and Udmurt. Egor Kashkin's article is devoted to the use of the verbs of falling. Elina Kozhevnikova 's article provides details about colour terms. The work by Anastasia Kriukova examines noun plural form recategorization. The paper by Julia Kuznetsova is dedicated to the inventory of pain verbs. Finally, Daria Mordashova's article discusses the semantics of Tatyshly Udmurt modal forms ending in -(o)no.

We visited the villages of Staryj Kyzyl-Jar, Ivanovka, Nizhnebaltachevo, Verkhnebaltachevo, Novye Tatyshly, Starokalmijarovo, Urazgildy, Bigineevo, and Aribash. The VII All-Russian Scientific Conference of Finno-Ugric Scholars "Modern Finno-Ugric Studies: science – society – culture" was held on June 27-30, 2024 in Yoshkar-Ola. Egor Kashkin, Daria Belova, Anastasia Kriukova and Daria Mordashova presented their talks at the conference.
Egor's talk was devoted to the grammaticalization of the verb ulə̑nə̑ 'live' in Tatyshly Udmurt. Daria Belova's talk discussed syntagmatic features of Russian verbal borrowings in the dialect. Anastasia presented her data on the means of expressing nominal cause in Tatyshly Udmurt. Finally, in Daria Mordashova's talk, Tatyshly Udmurt prospective constructions were discussed.

On June 21, the regular meeting of the Seminar "News from the field" took place. Egor Kashkin, Daria Belova and Yulia Sinitsyna gave there a joint talk entitled "The field project of OTIPL, MSU on Tatyshly Udmurt".
The talk discussed the peculiarities of the organization of collective field work, the sociolinguistic status of the dialect and its interaction with the Standart Udmurt and Turkic languages, some striking features of the Tatyshly dialect, as well as practical activities to preserve and popularize the Udmurt language and culture in the Tatyshly district.
The video record of the talk is planned to be posted additionally on the YouTube channel of the IL RAS.

A new issue of the Tomsk Journal of Linguistics and Anthropology has been published. It includes two articles by participants of our project, Tatiana Davidiuk and Egor Kashkin. Tatiana's article presents a study of subjects in participle -(e)m constructions in the context of their use as sentential arguments in the Tatyshly dialect of the Udmurt language. Egor's article deals with the semantics of lexemes with the meaning ‘straight(ly)’ in Tatyshly Udmurt.

It analyzes the semantic and morphosyntactic properties of two causative suffixes used in Tatyshly Udmurt: -t, of Uralic origins, and a Turkic borrowing

The IV Meeting of the Society of Russian philology was held by Lomonosov MSU in cooperation with other organizations from 9 till 11 November 2023. Its programme included a wide range of sections. Daria Belova, Tatiana Davidyuk, Vladislava Ovsyannikova, Taisiia Tyshchishina and Irina Khomchenkova presented a joint talk at a roundtable for young scholars discussing our project on Tatyshly Udmurt. Egor Kashkin participated in another section and shared the experience of constructing and using fieldwork corpora basing on the projects on Hill Mari and Tatyshly Udmurt.

Last week, the conference "Languages of Siberian peoples and nearby regions" was held in Novosibirsk (9-12 October, 2023).Two members of our project presented their talks there. In the talk by Anastasia Rudneva, the analysis of non-finite relativisation in Tatyshly Udmurt was presented. The talk by Anastasia Podgornaia dealt with transitive verbs that denote motion of liquids in Tatyshly Udmurt.

Last week, our team members Maria Emilia Winkler and Ananstasia Kryukova presented their talks at the conference «Indigenous languages of Russia in contact with Russian» (Moscow, Vinogradov Russian Language Institute RAS, 15–16 Sepember 2023). The talk by Ananstasia Kryukova was dedicated to the number marking of paired objects in Tatyshly Udmurt. In the talk by Maria Emilia Winkler, the data about borrowing and reanalysis in the semantic domain CLEAN in Uralic languages were discussed.

The proceedings volume of the II Conference in memoriam of V. M. Vasilyev: current issues in comparative studies (Yoshkar-Ola, 9–10 December) has recently appeared. It contains the article by Egor Kashkin. It deals with complex predicates which include the converb of a lexical verb and a grammaticalized verb. The data of Tatyshly Udmurt are discussed in comparison with other languages of the Volga-Kama area.

A new field trip to the Tatyshly district was organized from 25 July till 11 August 2023. We visited the villages of Staryj Kyzyl-Jar, Ivanovka, Nizhnebaltachevo, Verkhnebaltachevo, Novye Tatyshly, Starokalmijarovo, Bigineevo, and Aribash. Many issues of grammar and lexicon were studied. New texts were recorded and transcribed.

A new issue of the journal "Ural-Altaic Studies" has been published. It opens with the article of our team member Daria Belova. In the article, the analysis of the event structure of the Tatyshly Udmurt morphological causative is presented.

Our team member Daria Mordashova presented her online talk at the Workshop on modality of underdescribed languages, which was held in Berlin on 21–23 April 2023. Daria's talk was devoted to the typology of variable force modals, explaining the distribution of Tatyshly Udmurt constructions with a suffix -(o)no.

The proceedings volume of the conference "Minor languages in general linguistics" (Moscow, MSU, 22-23 April 2022) has recently appeared. It contains five articles of our project members. The paper by Maria Emilia Winkler deals with so-called "collective numerals", comparing their semantic and morphosyntactic properties in Hill Mari and Udmurt. Anna Danilova's article is devoted to syntactic properties of Tatyshly Udmurt converbs with the suffixes -sa, -kə̑ and -č'č'ož. The paper by Egor Kashkin and Julia Sinitsyna highlights the use of the posture predicate kə̑l'l'ə̑nə̑ ‘lie’ and its semantic extensions. The work by Anastasia Kriukova examines verbs of oscillation in Tatyshly Udmurt in a typological perspective. Finally, Anastasia Podgornaia's article is dedicated to lexemes of throwing: they are analyzed relying on the frame-based approach to lexical typology. All these papers are available via links.

The work on the corpus of Tatyshly Udmurt continues. New transcriptions of oral texts have been added. We also included there texts in Tatyshly Udmurt previously published by Anna Baydullina, Andrey Gilmaev, Valey Kelmakov. Its current size is ca. 19.6 thousand tokens. Further updates are planned. The corpus is available here.

On 9–10 December the II Conference in memoriam of V. M. Vasilyev: current issues in comparative studies was held in the Mari Research Institute of Language, Literature and History. The head of the project, Egor Kashkin, presented there his talk on the grammaticalization of Tatyshly Udmurt complex predicates in the light of areal typology.

A new field trip to the Tatyshly district took place from 29 July till 14 August 2022. We worked in the villages of Nizhnebaltachevo, Staryj Kyzyl-Jar, Ivanovka, Novye Tatyshly, Starokalmijarovo. Some consultants living in the village of Urazgildy were interviewed at Verkhnie Tatyshly (the district centre). The research focused on various grammatical and lexical phenomena. New texts were recorded and transcribed. Some pictures from the field trip were added into the gallery of our website.
